With a wooden bench, you typically start maintenance at least after year 2 or earlier and replace in at least 7 years.
However, it's perfectly possible these days to get the look and feel of wood but without the yearly round of maintenance, painting, etc.
All you have to do is replace your wooden garden bench or raised bed, or planter with a synthetic wood equivalent.
Synthetic or plastic wood is just as easy to work with. The same tools can be used and you don't have to worry about splinters while handling it.
